New Muslim: A practical plan to learn salah
A week-by-week plan to learn prayer without burnout, including what to memorize first.
The goal is to build consistency, not perfection. Learn in layers.
Week 1: structure + Al-Fatihah
- Learn prayer times and try to pray on time as much as possible.
- Memorize Al-Fatihah (with a teacher if possible).
- Use a simple guide card for the movements.
Week 2: short surah + tashahhud
- Memorize a short surah (Al-Ikhlas is a common start).
- Learn the sitting (tashahhud) words gradually.
Week 3+: refine and learn local madhhab details
- Work with a teacher to correct recitation and details.
- Don’t “mix and match” rulings—follow a consistent learning track.
